Our Work

Healthy Watersheds Initiative

For the duration of 2021 and the first half of 2022, Watersheds BC is helping advance watershed security by supporting the successful implementation of the Healthy Watersheds Initiative in partnership with the Real Estate Foundation of BC.

Through the Healthy Watersheds Initiative, Watersheds BC is providing training, resources and peer-to-peer support to local government staff, First Nations, watershed boards and roundtables, regional provincial staff, and other watershed professionals.

Indigenous Watershed Champions Initiative

The Indigenous Watershed Champions Initiative is a pilot program that is supporting and developing the capacity of leaders with a passion for culture and water. Watersheds BC is providing participants with tailored supports to advance community watershed goals and individual leadership needs.

In this pilot year, Watersheds BC is partnering with four participants across two Nations. As we learn from this evolving initiative, we hope to expand this work to include more participants.

Collaborative Monitoring Initiative

The Collaborative Monitoring Initiative aims to improve outcomes for BC watersheds by connecting environmental monitoring initiatives and data management programs to support science and inform decision-making. Currently, CMI is providing direct support to Indigenous and non-Indigenous regional collaborative initiatives and creating a community of practice for collaborative water monitoring in BC.

CMI is a partnership between BC Freshwater Legacy Initiative and Watersheds BC, projects of MakeWay, and POLIS Water Sustainability Project.
